Trying something new isn’t always the hard part. Getting out of your head, in my experience, is the challenge. It’s easy to get stuck in the comparison game—thinking about how things “should” look, or reflecting on how you used to move when you were younger, thinner, or in better shape. But freedom in movement begins when you let go of all those judgments and simply get curious about your movements today.
Today, I decided to release the self-judgment and explore how my body wanted to move in the present. It wasn’t about being perfect or doing something “right,” it was about being present in the movement itself. I started by letting my shoulders roll and noticing how it affected my spine. From there, I let my body sway in response, just letting things flow.
One of the most freeing moments came when I initiated movement from my core—imagine a slow body roll, with my head releasing and snapping back at the end. I couldn’t help but laugh because it felt so natural and spontaneous. It was an unexpected release, a reminder that movement can be playful, joyful, and full of surprises.
This is just the beginning, and I’m excited to continue this journey. It’s not about what it looks like or whether I’m doing it perfectly. It’s about exploring the joy of uninhibited movement and being in the moment.
This mindful movement practice is not just about moving—it’s about freeing yourself from judgment and tapping into that deep, creative well of self-expression.
